Vaitheeswaran Koil is renowned as the principal center for Nadi astrology. Here, Lord Shiva is venerated in the form of Vaidyanathar or Vaitheeswaran, the divine physician. It is believed that worshiping Vaitheeswaran can cure all ailments and dispel sorrows and miseries. In Tamil, the name is pronounced as "Vaideeswaran."
This temple is also one of the nine Navagraha (planetary) temples, specifically associated with the planet Mars (Angaraka).
The temple's sacred tank, known as Siddhamirtham, is believed to contain nectar mixed with holy waters, and a dip in this tank is said to cure diseases. Legends tell us that many Siddhas, in ancient times, performed abhishekam (ritual bathing) to Lord Vaidyanatha with nectar, which became part of this holy water. The tank is also infused with water from 18 theerthas (sacred sources), further enhancing its healing properties.
Lord Vaidyanatha not only alleviates physical suffering but is also believed to liberate devotees from the perpetual cycle of birth and death. The deity's grace is said to be so potent that it remedies planetary afflictions and fulfills the heartfelt wishes of devotees.
